PART ONE Children’s story

Under the tree the little boy sat,
Not feeling this, not feeling that.
A leaf floated past him – it flipped and it flapped –
It landed on the grass, small and flat.
From a bush, a scuffle, a snap!
The boy raised his head and pulled up his cap.
And out from the bush, appeared a cat.
It shook off the twigs, crawled out of the gap,
Then it tipped and it tapped
and sprung in the boy’s lap.
The tabby curled up, ginger and round.
The cat and the boy sat, without a sound.
Just a boy and a cat,
the sky and the ground.
They sat there still and stared and gazed,
Just a boy and a cat, the sky and the ground.
Not thinking a thing in the sun-hazed shade.
They they stayed…a little while longer…
Then the cat turned to ponder –
With a twitch of his whisker –
“Shall we go for a walk and look for some treasure?”
“Treasure?” asked the boy, “What will it be?”
“Don’t worry about that. Just follow me.”
Up sprung the cat, and stalked down the hill.
Up jumped the boy, with a leap and a thrill.
Through tall grass they prowled,
down valleys they sped,
Not knowing where their adventure led.
Somehow, they sensed, though, that this was the way –
somehow they sensed where the treasure may lay.
